Finding a lead maternity carer (LMC) is a key step early in pregnancy, with many choosing a midwife, or sometimes an obstetrician, for their care.

Mental Health Support
Little Shadow
Little Shadow offers counselling and support for parents experiencing perinatal distress, depression, grief, loss and anxiety. Little Shadow believes the road to recovery, resilience and wellness all begins with a little help. Little Shadow supports parents giving birth as well as partners, and provides individual and couples counselling.

Tūpuna Parenting Foundations Lower Hutt Āti Awa
Te Rūnanga will be hosting an 8-week Tūpuna Parenting wānanga for māmā, pāpā, and caregivers in Lower Hutt, starting April 23rd. Learn traditional mātauranga on raising pēpi and tamariki to enhance your home environment.

Hāputanga Wānanga | Te Awhi o te Rito
Hāputanga Wānangais a bi-monthly 2-day wānanga at Kōkiri Marae, Seaview (next one happening in June) for all hapū māmā and whānau, offering empowerment, traditional Māori birthing practices, and evidence-based antenatal education.

Youth Support
Vibe
Young Parent Support (24 & under) - Vibe offers a range of free, supportive services for young parents aged 24 and under, including one-on-one support from a Young Parent Social Worker, free antenatal course for pregnant māmā, and more. Their Chill n Chat playgroup (every second Tuesday in Upper Hutt) is a safe, fun, non-judgemental space to connect with other young parents while your pēpi or child plays, free lunch provided.

Evolve
Evolve parents group is a social group that runs weekly. The group is open to any parents, partners or parents to be under the age of 25 and their pēpi. The group is located at Evolve Youth Service on Cuba St or other tamariki friendly places around Wellington.

Practical Support
Bellyful
Bellyful is a volunteer-led charity providing free meals to whānau with babies or children under 12 who are going through tough times such as illness, stress, isolation, pregnancy, miscarriage, or baby loss.
Support is for families without a support network, with meals delivered by local volunteers to help ease the load during challenging times.

Donor Milk – Seeking Donors
Wellington Regional Hospital is seeking breast milk donors to support newborn pēpi and their whānau while in hospital. If you have surplus milk, you can help make a difference. A Lactation Consultant will guide you through a simple screening process, including a questionnaire and blood test.
